Machine learning for Scottish A&E 4-hour wait prediction and trend analysis.
Understanding trends in Scottish accident and emergency activity is essential for healthcare utilisation analysis, resource allocation, and patient outcomes. Existing linear models provided useful baselines but did not fully capture non-linear patterns in attendances.
This project developed and evaluated supervised machine learning models to predict whether attendances met the 4-hour waiting-time standard using Scottish A&E data from 2018 to 2023. The work examined social and demographic drivers and investigated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on waiting times.
